Work

Vishal Mahajan

Hapag-Lloyd AG

Data Scientist, 2024 - present

I build analytics applications that enable impactful decision making for efficient, sustainable, and reliable supply chains. My work involves:

Technical University of Munich

Research Associate, 2019 - 2023

I designed and implemented ETL pipelines for traffic and geospatial data from numerous sources and spearheaded the development of workflows for data quality improvement. I also led the design and development of machine learning pipelines for mobility analytics and traffic prediction.

During my tenure, I initiated and finished TraMPA project to address data insufficiency in mobility analyses. I developed and tested a scalable anomaly detection method for large traffic trajectory datasets. I also prototyped a workflow for the transfer of deep learning models for real-time mobility and traffic predictions. The ML-based methods were integrated to automate the calibration of large-scale black-box simulations.

Apart from the above, I managed the Chair's website, internal WIKI, on-premise server hardware and configuration, supervised students, and gave lectures for masters-level courses.

Fortiss GmbH

Machine Learning Student Assistant, 2018 — 2019

I developed an Intelligent recommendation system to provide recommendations to AutoFocus3 users. To achieve this, I integrated the machine-learning pipeline with Java-based software tools for providing real-time recommendations.

National Highways Authority of India

Deputy Manager (Tech.), 2013 — 2017

I was responsible for identifying pre-construction land acquisition and utility shifting issues and coordinating with the state and central authorities for their fast-track resolution. I took the initiatives to use data-driven insights to identify road safety issues, preparing and monitoring measures for their correction.
